What do you want in life? A question that comes up allarmingly regularly at the moment. In work, in church, in Carmarthen… yes, but why? what will you do with it? what do you want to do?? Always as if we can’t be statisfied with here and now.

What you want shifts with the breeze. How can you live life by what you want? Wants are temporary, transigent, selfish, material, short term… belief, conscience, need, conviction, that sort of thing holds far more water for me. If I can hold to what I believe in I might be getting somewhere.

What do I want? for it to stop raining. to get on better with people in work. to cope better with difficult issues in church and choir. to wade through my pile of late paperwork. another cuppa. sleep. to win the lottery. None of it particularly real, likely or important.

Unlike some of the deeper meaningful stuff. Nuff introspection for one night. Will write more regularly this week!

Grr

Grrim day in work yesterday, managed to piss off virtually all the people I work for, and their patients, without really knowing why.

Grrey damp warm wet dark depressing weather doesn’t help.

Grreat evening – after letting some of the work stress out, settled down for girly evening with star housemate, videos, alcohol, and icecream.

When two or three are met together…

… housegroup becomes more real and revealing but also challenging; nowhere to hide and not say anything, if there are only 3 people there! Emotionally drained, though.

In other news, in brief – work great, coursework crises over (for the time being), enjoying the studying but still struggling with the time thing, friendly stalker has left the country, unfriendly stalker is back in touch but I’m coping much better generally.

Too tired for much more now!

A life in the day…

My wonderful housemate Sarah (who may yet be persuaded to join the wiblog band!) sent me this lovely food for thought, which I decided would be my this week’s entry. Not hugely creative or original but felt appropriate for the theme…

A life in today blogger_idol-1.gif

Imagine there is a bank which credits your account each morning with £86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day, allows you to keep no cash balance, and every evening cancels whatever part of the amount you had failed to spend during the day. What would you do? Draw out every penny, of course!

Well, everyone has such a bank. Its name is Time. Every morning it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off as lost whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the records of the day. If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against tomorrow. You must live in the present on today’s deposits. Invest it so as to get the utmost out of it.

To realise the value of a year, ask a student who has failed his exam. To realise the value of a month, ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby. To realise the value of a week, ask an editor of a weekly newspaper. To realise the value of a day, ask a daily wage labourer who has ten kids to feed. To realise the value of an hour, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet. To realise the value of a minute, ask a person who has missed their train. To realise the value of a second, ask a person who has survived an accident. To realise the value of a millisecond, ask the person who won silver medal in the Olympics.

The clock is always running Make the most of a life in the day…
