Off across the water…

I’m going to Ireland in the morning, so won’t be writing here for the rest of the week. Don’t miss me tooo much!! And if any readers happen to be in Dublin they could do worse than drop in to St Pats for evensong or to hear the bells… both singing and ringing by vis’ters from Swansea.

See you in August!

the “Tav”

One good thing about my new flat is how near it is to the pub. When we signed for the keys we went round the corner for a celebratory glass or two safe in the knowledge we could roll home again in seconds.

One bad thing about my new flat is how near it is to the pub. When they have bands on a Friday night we have no problem in hearing them, even through shut windows… and this morning there were empty lager bottles in the garden.

Oh well.

Mobile and Legal again :)

I have wheeeeeeeeels :)

Sad sad sad to have had to retire the mad old orange noisebox that was my first and much loved car (1976 Mini with a soft top, for those that don’t know and might’ve wondered), but she really was becoming a bit too expensive to keep alive and on the road.

For readers in Swansea, this may come as slightly worrying news. From tonight I’m back on the road (complete with Londonlearned driving habits!), having been helped lots by the people I work for both in finding and then affording my new mode of transport – a Polo (not the minty holey sort though).

It starts when you switch it on! It doesn’t stall in the rain (good thing too, today)! It stops when you press the brakes!! All of which are positive advantages over the scarily unsound Min. It’s not as eccentric or stand out in a crowd, but maybe that’s not a bad thing.

It must be a sign I’m getting old and sensible when I have to agree that in a choice between safe and snazzy I should go for safe – oh, middle age here I come…

Dear 216.78.57.178

From the FAQs: "Please avoid abusive or libellous posts or posting under someone else’s name… Also respect other Wibloggers, their views…"

As far as I can tell you haven’t once posted under your own name, on mine or anyone else’s wiblog. and "respect"? hmm. not sure if you know what it means.

You’re consistently irrelevant, sometimes outright unpleasant or rude, and apart from that, boring, not even funny, and a timewaster!

"i mean no harm to you or yours…but you asked for it."

That last bit sounds like you *do* mean it.

Apart from such minor details – it’s lovely to have you on the site!! BTW, where are you? you’re either across several timezones, or an insomniac like me!!

Ciao for now,

blonde

Legally Blonde Too…

No, this isn’t a referral to Bible Geek’s recent trouble with someone else using his name, but apparently they’ve made a sequel to the film from which I take (well, more borrow really!) my name, tongue firmly in cheek. I don’t know if I’m looking forward to it or not… too many people may start telling me they recognise too much of me in it again…. hmm, have to wait til September and see.

Social Life!

I have one again :)

or rather, some good friends asked me to join them for a sneaky midweek jaunt to the UCI. It’s ages since I went to the cinema, or did "out" on a work night, so am feeling like a truant kid with a midnight feast or something… *grin*

Admitting how little I’m aware of films, adverts, things on screens generally these days, so I’m not really someone to take any notice of on the recommendations front, I *did* enjoy tonight’s offering, called Bruce Almighty… though I was highly dubious when told "it’s funny, Jim Carrey plays God", I actually really enjoyed it (I did, honest! anyone who saw me leaving parc tawe in absolute floods may well not think so, but I did). I won’t say lots and spoil it, but it’s worth the extortionate non-student ticket price. Morgan Freeman is wonderful as always. And some real deep’n'meaningfuls in amongst the irreverent funnies.

See it, and let me know what you thought.

Alternatively…

I work in a clinic (or two) of natural medicine, complementary or "alternative" therapies etc… there’s heaps of medical evidence and research etc that says this is A Good Thing and can help sort out problems that "conventional" medicine (ie operations, antibiotics, that sort of thing) has trouble righting.

BUT

Someone – a kind, well meaning, would be helpful someone – in church asked me how I could justify me – a Christian – working there. Hmmm. Confused alice asks why? what possible objections could there be? I was so unprepared for the attack.

Please can someone, anyone, please, explain to an upset naiive blonde what’s so evil, from a Xn point of view, about acupuncture, chinese medicine, homoeopathy, osteopathy, naturopathy, counselling or detox?

I’m not so worried about a couple of people’s opinions, but would love to know the basis for them, and if it’s a generally held stance among friends/Christians/people generally… Enlighten me?

sad alice :o (

Be careful what you pray…

… ’cause it may well be answered!

I prayed for friends’ jobhunting – the good news is the job offers flood in, the bad news is they’re likely to have to move to Birmingham (no offence to Birmingham readers!)

I prayed for a friend’s mum to be in less pain and distress – and sung in her funeral last week.

I prayed for some enlightenment and help with discerning what’s behind a pile of "coincidences" recently – I don’t know if He’s trying to tell me something, or in Pamela’s wonderful phrase, "a celestial poke in the ribs" – and the results are terrifying. Enlightenment alright, in the form of more and more pointers, some subtle, others much less so, in a direction I’m really not that convinced about.

I know I should be less worried and hate the controlfreakery element in me, but it’s kinda scary being asked to take a giant leap into the unknown…Any words of wisdom and/or reassurance out there much appreciated!!

alice

PS I know I said i’d be here more reg’ly now we’re all plumbed in in the new flat, and I’m aware that was a while ago… have slapped wrist and made more lists of good intentions to aim at, wish me luck.

back!!

Have now successfully moved house (though am still wading through boxes, unpacking and sorting etc) and am a couple of steps nearer to affording fees for my Masters. And it’s still sunny, and I’ve had my first freeeeeeeee weekend in a long time to relax, be outside, see people I haven’t for a while, that sort of thing…. And this morning the nice people from ntl woke us up to come and install the new phone numbers, so in v little time I should be back to more regular visits. Life’s good!

Returnal Student

When I announced I wasn’t leaving WAles just ’cause I had to leave Uni there were dark mutterings back "home" about "eternal students…" and such like, but I had to point out how not actually being on any form of course disqualified me for this unflattering title.

HOWEVER the dissenters must have known I couldn’t not study for long! Yesterday I had a nInterview for a course I’ld REALLY like to do (funding it permitting!) and now I can confirm I will return to the student world in September (only part time, mind, but still). I’ve been officially accepted on the MTh in Ecumenical Studies at Carmarthen, which is Very Good News :)

(If any kind millionaires reading happen to feel like slipping me a couple of grand so that I can actually afford it after all that, please do get in touch!!)
